Parent Governor Recruitment Documentation
Please find below, application paperwork for the role of Parent Governor at Benjamin Britten School.
Please note, you may apply to become a Parent Governor if you have a child in any year group at the school. Although the term of office is for four years, your child does not have to be at the school for a further four years in order for you to sustain the position, they just need to be at the school at the time of you applying to become a Governor.
Why become a Governor?
School governance allows you to develop your skills, both personally and professionally, including:
- Strategic planning
- Experience on a board
- Holding senior leaders to account
- Finance, and maintaining oversight of large budgets
- Human resources and performance management
- Project management
- Communication and teamwork
- Decision making
As a parent governor, your role is:
- To bring a parental perspective to the issues discussed – you're not there to speak 'on behalf' of the parent body. This means you're using your experience as a parent to help inform the board’s thinking.
- No different from other governors
Local Governing Body meetings take place three times a year. Inbetween these meetings, there will be opportunities for you to support the school in further business such as school improvement plans, recruitment of staff and recognition of pupil achievement. You will be asked to undertake safeguarding training, and will be given opportunities to undertake further training if desired.
Paper copies of the application paperwork are available from the main school office upon request.
If you have any questions regarding the role, please do not hesitate to contact us by emailing clerk@benjaminbritten.school or through telephoning the school on 01502 582312.
Our aims are simple: to develop the sharpest minds and the biggest hearts in our children through a traditional academic approach to education.
